Decades Activity Book
1920s and 1960s
1920s and 1960s
As a collaborative project, this acivity book required in depth research of a specific decade and then mimicking the style of that decade. Since I was so intrigued by this, I chose to tackle two different eras, the 1920s and the 1960s.
The 1920s had lovely, ornamental typography as well as the hand-painted feel of the background in most advertising. I chose my activities to reflect iconic 1920s advertising pieces and phrases and mimicked the design of a 20s ad with the painted background look and black and white, art deco typography and graphics. I hand decorated the headers, and the drop cap to reveal the stylistic elements of the 1920s.
For the 1960s, I chose the bold poppy colors that are so representative of that era and hand lettered each page to conform to the design as well as the feel of the 60s.
I was very inspired by the typography of the 1960's and took to heart the emphasis that typography had on the designs commonly found from this decade. I had lettered each spread in Adobe Illustrator using the pen tool to make the letters conform to a specific space.
